Although English Literature was my preferred subject at school, I came to writing late in my career. From attending drama school, taking a buyer's course with a large department store, through to studying - and practicing - architecture, I later became a self-taught antique dealer specialising in Art Deco pottery. I loved the freedom this brought me. However, once the profusion of TV programmes on the subject, together with the intrusion of eBay, made stock more difficult to come by, I returned to my first love, taking an Open University degree in English. The creative writing modules fuelled my love of storytelling and, although I regret not taking it up sooner, I am thankful for all my career choices, as each one has helped to inform my writing.
